Handmade Ornaments

Several summers ago I found these handmade Christmas ornaments at a garage sale. They were in a box and I couldn't help but notice all the careful and loving work that must have gone into the making of these by some grandmother or mom...now they were being discarded.
I asked the guy in charge how much for the box of ornaments and he said ten cents each. I must have gave him a little over two dollars for this box of delightful treasures. treasures. These are just a few of them. In the box was a three piece set of Dorothy..the tin man and the scarecrow. These I gave to my daughter Gwen who loves "The Wizard of Oz"

Some of the ornaments are done in crewel work, with lots of hand stitching like these below. You an see they were done around 1979..which makes them about thirty years old.

The next two pictures are some of the ornaments in the box.

There were wreaths, Christmas stockings, rocking horse, gumball machine and much more

This little couple may have been Hansel and Gretal

There were several dogs. The other was white with a fireman's hat.
This looks like a happy little guy..maybe because he got a bone for Christmas.
I love the ice cream cone and the Christmas tree with all the sequins
You can tell by looking at these that a lot of time was spent on these.
There was cutting, stuffing, putting on sequins and ribbons.
Yes,I did put these on my tree when my grandchildren were young.

THIS ONE below did not come with the others. It is very special to me as my husband made it years ago when we were doing crafts. He made dozens of these reindeer which we sold and also gave to family members and friends

This was a rare fine. There are not many whot take the time to make such great heirlooms.
Hope you enjoyed looking at these
