A time for children

The Christmas's I remember were a time for children. My dad was a farmer and mother a homemaker. There were seven of us children....three girls, a boy and three more girls. ( I am sure my father wanted more boys.) I remember we never had much but there was always a new toy, some coloring books and crayons, a puzzle, a dress, new jeans , a shirt and maybe some new boots. The stocking hung on the fireplace that were filled with candy, nuts and fruit. Mom and my grandmothers baked for days .(I remember the taste of fudge and cookies like it was yesterday.) I remember going to the Christmas church services and hearing the old favorite hymns sung by a choir in beautiful robes.
Too much is lost of our old traditional Christmas in these new days of technology . Too much want and not enough of giving and kindness

Take time to make some new memories this weekend that will be remembered in years to come.

  2. Elaine, I enjoyed your post because it made me think of all the wonderful memories of growing up on the farm. I have six brothers and three sisters with me being kind of in the middle. Christmas was a special time with the stockings hung and the homemade candies and cookies. You are right. I can still taste my mother's divinity. Did you ever make taffey? I can remember that. I would love to have an old fashioned Christmas. I love the little girl looking out the window. Is she family, if she is, she is adorable. Merry Christmas Your Missouri Friend

  3. I love Alan Jackson music. I agree with you whole heatedly that the real reason for the holiday is to commercial. No one appreciates the little things in life like we did.
